Maxfield House || Guest Bedroom

It's one of the best feelings to finally own our own home. It's also great to know that we have a spare bedroom so more people can visit and spend the night without being uncomfortable on the couch. This means that our family and friends from BC are more likely to come see us now, knowing they have somewhere to stay for free instead of a hotel. Our first visitors come in 2 weeks so I've got two weeks to kinda make the room feel a little more comfortable. Currently, we're residing in there until we get our new mattress this coming weekend.

This is a picture of the room I snapped on our final walk-through before we got possession of the house:

I've been browsing Pinterest like crazy trying to find ideas. There are sooo many options, but my goal is to make the room feel bright, happy, and cozy! Here are some of my ideas:

I definitely want "Be Our Guest" in the room somewhere, so I picked up some wooden letters from Michael's to nail on to the wall. How? Not sure yet, but that'll come to me soon. I also want to make a gallery wall full of friend and family quotes/prints and "Stay Awhile" fits right in! Extra blankets in a guest room is always a must because what may be a fine temperature for us, may not be fine for our guests. I'll just have to keep the door closed so Koshka doesn't sneak in and get fur all over the blankets ;)

Having been an overnight guest at someone's home, what sorts of things were missing? What kinds of things were there that you LOVED?

The Maxfield House

I figured it's been a while since I've been on here, but I want to change that. We're kiiiind of settled in, but I have more time to blog - I know that because I've had more time to play FarmVille (shhhh). Anywhos, I wanted to share some pictures of us living in our first home!!

Above is the first picture that I took of our house on possession day! The second one is all of us (Gunner, Rob, and myself) lounging on the couch watching TV.

Since I've been doing Whole30 (a whole post coming on that pretty soon!), I've had a few instances of meal prep. Usually I just cut up my veggies and prep my meat right before I cook, but I had a night out in the two truck with my dad so I prepped dinner, lunch, and then dinner for the next day. While on Whole30, I usually have more energy. One of the days, I came home from work and organized our kitchen. Before Whole30, I would have been cranky and super tired after work. I love it!

Our backyard view after a heavy snowfall. Seriously, it all happened over night. Ugh. Well, eating healthier can be, and is, tasty. Beat the chip cravings with a bowl of blueberries, strawberries, and banana. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on top and you're golden :)

Gunner is loving the fact that we have our own place. He runs around and always, always gets in to mischief when he's not laying on the couch or on top of us. We're slowly making our home a home. Rob got an area rug for our living room and it already feels cozier. I'm looking forward to making our place even homier.

We bought a...

...house! I've been so absent from a la Maxfield but for a good reason! This was definitely stressful, but it was worth it :)

We had viewed 2 other places and then this one, on the second Sunday of January. The first place we viewed was a mobile home in a trailer park that had had a ton of renovations done to it. Turns out, Rob would have to redo the electrical work, and then you have to pay a lot rent AND a mortgage every month. Totally not worth it! The second place was a brand new condo/townhome that I fell in love with...but it didn't have ANY yard. It definitely wasn't ideal because we have Gunner, and eventually we'll have children.

Our first home required a bunch of renovations. It's a half duplex bungalow and I don't think I could love it more! We taped, primed, and painted for like, a whole week. We moved in this previous Sunday (Feb 8) and are just about settled in. I can't wait for my Costco run this weekend so I can stop living off pizza and cans of soup!

Anywho, I'm sure you want to see some pictures. These pictures are from our last viewing before we got possession on January 30th. I'll be sure to post some updated pictures when we're settled and have finished the main renovations - like putting baseboards on and finishing the flooring.
